Yeast Infection Cause - Awareness Leading to Prevention

By Naomi Smith

Learning about yeast infection causes is essential to alert people of the symptoms and learn how to treat the disease early with over the counter cures for vaginal itching rather than later with strong drugs to prevent the disease from recurring. This disease is the second most common reason for burning in women.

Burning is an itch in the vagina and results to vaginal discharge. But, women need to be aware on how they can get this disease. First cause of this disease is fungus. This is the primary source of this disease among women. The primary fungus that can lead to this disease is Candida albicans. Similar to other types of bacteria, this fungus is present in small amounts in the vaginal area. But, when this fungus multiplies rapidly, this is a cause for concern as this is one of the yeast infection causes. This is commonly known as candidiasis or monilia.

Another cause of this disease is a lowered immune system. When a woman's immune system is low, this can result to rapid bacterial growth.  This can usually happen when women are overworked, do not get enough sleep, or are sick. And, this disease can even be due to stress.

Another yeast infection causes is hormones. A woman's body's hormonal changes, which happen at the end of the menstruation cycle, can lead to this vaginal disease.  Another is birth control and pregnancy, which influence hormonal activity. It is a fact that pregnant women can experience recurrent infections.

A more popular cause of this disease is sex. Some might think that Candida infections are not sexually transmitted but this is not true. This is because these can be passed onto your partner during sex through semen and other bodily fluids. And, this is usually worse in vaginal intercourse without adequate lubrication.

The next yeast infection causes might surprise. This cause is antibiotics, which is actually the leading cause of this disease in American women. But, this usually happens with certain types of antibiotics or prolonged usage of antibiotics. Though there are also some women who can get this disease no matter what type of antibiotics they take or how long they use it. Sadly, though, there is no way to prevent antibiotic induced yeast infection though there are a number of treatments that are available when this disease starts.

Another yeast infection causes is diabetes, which results to elevated blood sugar levels and thereby resulting to the growth of yeast. This is mainly because of uncontrolled diabetes mellitus.

Other factors can lead to this disease and these are hot, humid weather; tight or poorly ventilated clothing; significant dietary changes; poor nutrition; allergic reactions; HIV infection; etc. Lastly, people must be aware that this disease can also happen in men though they might less likely be aware of having it than women. Thus, they also need be aware about yeast infection causes, which is mostly due to lowered immunity.
